WWII Pilots' Reunion - Detroit, November 2010

It was a privilege to accompany my dad, Richard Mudrow, to Detroit Michigan for a WWII Troop Carrier Pilot reunion. Although I pretty much loved everything about it, the very best part was having my dad as a constant companion for the long week-end. Here we are in the plane enroute.

The son-in-law of my dad's cousin Roberta traveled with us, Bill Polly (lower right). We enjoyed spending time with Gene Crawford (top right) and his wife, seen here with us at dinner.
There were plenty of opportunities to sit around and talk - the stories were another highlight.
Here's a shot of my dad (on the right) with Gene Crawford and Bill Walsh.Heading on a bus to the Henry Ford Museum.
The museum is incredibly huge and beautiful.
We took in a wonderful IMAX Theater show on the history of flight and spent hours touring the impressive displays of planes (C47, below), locomotives, cars, and other modes of transportation.

There is a reenactment village and hundreds of other exhibits, everything from firearms to enormous machinery to R. Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion House
The food was good and the meals afforded more opportunities to share stories and catch up.

Another field trip was to a hangar just 20 minutes from our hotel where several WWII era planes are being restored. The highlight was a C47, the type of plane flown by my dad and some of his buddies.
Here he is in the cockpit.
It was a wonderful trip!
